(BROCKTON, MA) – Citing her long record of helping working families, supporting collective bargaining and fighting for safe workplaces, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO has announced its endorsement of State Representative Christine Canavan (D-Brockton) for re-election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO is the state’s largest and strongest advocate for working families in both the private and public sector. Encompassing over 400,000 members and their families across the Commonwealth, the organization supports economic stability, justice and security for every worker in Massachusetts.
“Throughout her career, Christine Canavan has been a strong and reliable advocate for working men and women and their families throughout the Greater-Brockton area and across the Commonwealth. She has been with us when it comes to supporting expanded gaming, partnering with our first responders and other public employees, and advocating for quality education and healthcare,” said Massachusetts AFL-CIO President Robert J. Haynes.
“We don’t always agree. But we agree on a great deal because Christine knows what it’s like to walk a picket line. The AFL-CIO is supporting her because she has the courage to stand up for what is right. On September 14th and November 2nd, Christine Canavan is the best choice to continue working with us to move Massachusetts forward,” Haynes added.
“As a Registered Nurse and a mother of two Brockton High School teachers, supporting working families has always been a no-brainer for me because my family is a working family. I’m honored that Massachusetts working men and women have placed their faith in me to continue our fight for jobs, healthy families and strong communities,” said Representative Canavan.
By endorsing Christine for re-election, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO joins a long list of prominent—and broad-based—organizations that have endorsed and pledged their support to Representative Canavan’s re-election campaign. They include: the Brockton Ward 5 Democratic City Committee, Brockton Firefighters Local 144, 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the Coalition for Social Justice, the Mass Nurses Association (MNA), Gun Owners Action League (GOAL), the Mass Teachers Association (MTA), Planned Parenthood, the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts (PFFM), and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
