Working to crack-down on—and prevent—school-related bullying, I presented testimony to the legislature’s Joint Committee on Education today in support of a number of measures that would strengthen our laws to address the ever-prevalent issues of harassment, intimidation, bullying and cyber-bullying in our schools.
In my testimony, I argued that two bills currently before the Committee, H.483 and S.242, represent promising solutions towards ensuring that the legislature does its part—in collaboration with our partners in local school districts—to outline more uniform policies to address the widespread issue of bullying.
“There have been a number of more-recent, tragic events in each of our communities and across our Commonwealth that have unfortunately attached young faces and families to this growing problem,” I added.

The proposals are now being reviewed more thoroughly by members of the Education Committee. I will continue working with my colleagues on the Committee and legislative leaders in hopes of the bill coming before the full legislature next year when formal sessions resume in January.
