From helping area constituents, to researching legislation and attending meetings throughout the Greater-Brockton region, Kyle Goggans has had a “thrilling and opportunity-filled time,” he says, interning in my State House office this summer.

“Working at the State House has been an amazing experience,” said Kyle. “Opportunities like this highlight the strength of the Massachusetts Legislature and its ability to serve as a body for the people. I am indebted to Representative Canavan and her staff, not only for their help, but also for their hard work and dedication to serving my community.”

Just in his second week at the State House, Goggans, a Brockton resident, had the opportunity to introduce Richard Doherty, President of the AICUM (the Association of Independent College and Universities in Massachusetts), to fellow interns during a seminar. President Doherty talked with interns about the role of independent colleges in the Commonwealth and the importance of government support for institutions of higher education across the state.

Continuing his involvement in the internship program, Kyle was an avid participant in the summer-long stream of seminars and meetings geared at giving interns a first-hand perspective on government-in-action. He was also able to work as part of Representative Canavan’s team which he says, “gave great insight into the day-to-day workings of the legislative office and solidified a long-standing interest in community involvement and public service.”

Kyle has been a great addition to our staff. He is a fine young man, and I’m glad we were able to provide him with numerous experiences—both inside and outside of the State House this summer. I wish him all the best as he continues with his undergraduate studies and hope to have him back again next year.

This fall, Kyle will enter his junior year at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania where he will continue his studies in Political Science.
