Proud of my record of fighting for working families and partnering with local first responders to bolster public safety initiatives, today I proudly announced that I've been endorsed for re-election by Brockton Firefighters Local 144.
“We’re proud to stand with Christine Canavan because she has a long record of standing with us,” said Lt. Archie Gormley, President of the Brockton Firefighters Union. “Our fight has always been her fight, and protecting our communities has always been first on her agenda.”
As a veteran State Representative for the 10th Plymouth District, which currently includes the town of West Bridgewater and parts of Brockton and Easton, I have always been a tireless advocate for firefighters, EMTs and all first responders throughout my career. Working together with union leaders, city officials and colleagues in Brockton’s legislative delegation during the current legislative session, we led the successful charge to secure over $500,000 in federal stimulus funding to local fire departments, including over $340,000 for the city of Brockton.
I have also worked with leaders in the fire service to ensure that first responders are protected with laws and provisions that truly reflect the dangers and cumulative health impacts of their professions. Together, we've worked to bring back hundreds of thousands of dollars to our communities for fire equipment and education for students through the S.A.F.E program. We have also successfully sponsored legislation aimed at providing communities with enhanced tools to respond to hazmat emergencies.
As a legislator and a health care professional, I am well aware of the multitude of responsibilities facing our front-line firefighters. Their work today goes well beyond extinguishing a blaze; they’re first responders to health emergencies and community partners in providing so many critical services.
My strong partnership with our firefighters has always been based on a keen awareness of the dangers they face, and I am so pleased that they have placed their faith in me to continue my work as one of their State Representatives.
